TRSV Activists Climb Moosapet Tower
Agitators protest against the Maha Deeksha proposed by Y S Vijayalakshmi for the cause of weavers, on 23 July in Sircilla.
Hyderabad | 20th July 2012
In protest against the Maha Deeksha proposed by YSR Congress honorary president Y S Vijayalakshmi for the cause of weavers, on 23 July in Sircilla, two members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi, on Friday, climbed a cell tower near the Moosapet flyover in the city, demanding that Vijayalakshmi withdraw her proposed Deeksha.
The TRSV members, wearing the organisation's banner, climbed the cell tower and raised slogans against her deeksha, declaring that Vijayalakshmi should not enter Telangana region without making her party's stand on the statehood issue clear.
Despite policemen's repeated appeal to them to come down from the tower, the TRSV members continued their protest.
With the incident, the traffic on the Moosapet flyover came to standstill, and the police had a tough time dealing with the situation.
It may be mentioned here that Vijayalakshmi's proposed deeksha seems to have heated up the district politics, and sparked off a war of words.
Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and Sircilla MLA K T Rama Rao termed the deeksha a vain bid to boost the sagging image of the YSR Congress Party.
Sircilla MLA K T Rama Rao alleged that around 250 weavers had committed suicide during the regime of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, between 2004 and 2009. He attributed the deaths to the policies and programs of the YSR government.
On other hand, Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram called upon the people in the region to disrupt Vijayamma's deeksha.
YSR Congress leaders flayed the Telangana leaders' statements, accusing them of trying to battle for weavers without even knowing what their problems are. (INN)
