Y S Vijayalakshmi, the widow of former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was sworn in today as MLA. Vijayalakshmi got elected from the by-election in Pulivendula, YSR's constituency, after the latter was killed in a helicopter crash.
YSR's son Y S Jagan, Congress leader D Srinivas, and other Congress ministers were among those present at the swearing-in procedure. A tearful Vijayalakshmi was sworn in by the Assembly speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy in the Speaker's chamber. KVP Ramachandra Rao was present at the ceremony with his family.
Vijayalakshmi was declared elected unopposed, as opposing parties - including TDP, PRP, Lok Satta and the Left - had decided not to field any candidate.
