After affecting many facets of everyday life, the continued increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana has now become an obstacle to the grand meeting Y S Sharmila had hoped to organise for the
launch of her new party. The meeting was reportedly to be held in Khammam on April 9.
The Khammam police have issued notices to the organisers of the meeting under GOs 68 and 69. The notices were handed over to the Khammam district in-charge of the new party, Lakkineni Sudheer.
However, Sharmila's supporters have said that they will ensure that the meeting is held in keeping with all the necessary Covid-19 safety guidelines. They have submitted an application seeking permission for the meeting to Khammam Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal.
Since the local police department had initially given the organisers permission to hold the public meeting at a ground in Khammam, Sharmila had hoped to launch her party in the presence of one lakh people.
Her aides had said that she would be revealing the name, the symbol, and its code of conduct at the meeting. It is being said that she has decided to call the party YSR Telangana Party in an obvious homage to her father and a bold reclamation of his legacy (her brother's party, the ruling party in AP, is called the YSR Congress Party).
