Kadapa MP and YSR Congress Party President Y S Jaganmohan Reddy concluded his 2-day fast in Guntur with a passionate speech wherein he lashed out against various prominent political personalities.
Jagan slammed Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu, who recently conducted various events to highlight the plight of the farmers, for reportedly having described agriculture as "a waste of time" when he was the Chief Minister.
Jagan also asserted that Rosaiah and Kiran Kumar Reddy, both of whom succeeded his father YSR as the CM, had failed to work for the upliftment of the lives of the farmers.
Stating that the state had recorded a 6% increase in the agriculture sector during the "golden reign" of the late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, Jagan told the multitudes gathered that they (Jagan and the public) would have to work together to usher back in the "golden period".
The YSR Congress Party President also worked the Rs. 5 petrol price hike into his speech, stating that the steep hike that came 2 days after the announcement of the election results was indicative of the highhandedness of the government.
The 2-day fast undertaken by Jagan succeeded in creating political conflicts within the Congress, though whether it makes any impact on the government's take on the affected farmers is yet to be seen.
17 Congress MLAs were spotted at the site of Jagan's 'deeksha', and some of them waxed eloquent about Jagan and YSR. A Congress MLA had declared that he would soon quit the Congress to join the YSR Congress Party.
The fast undertaken by Jagan was a huge hit among the people of Guntur, if the multitudes braving the scorching Sun to listen to Jagan's conclusion speech and the steady stream of locals flocking the camp site are anything to judge by.
