For the first time after quitting the Congress party, Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy called on the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi, on Thursday.
According to sources, Jagan complained to the Prime Minister that the CBI was being misused by the Congress party to take political revenge.
He appealed to Singh to use his offices to stop "the misuse" of the probing agency, and alleged that the state government was harassing members of his family while ostensibly getting the CBI to conduct raids on his businesses and properties.
However, Jagan tried to downplay the meeting, which lasted for about 15 minutes, and made it look like he was there to talk about AP's farmers' issues. He also submitted a 2-page memorandum to the Prime Minister, stating that farmers in the Konaseema region were being forced to declare crop holidays as they were unable to get remunerative prices for their produce.
Stating that the farmers were facing a huge shortage of fertilizers and seeds, Jagan appealed to Singh to take measures to address their problem.
He asked the PM to set up a Market Intervention Fund for farmers with an investment of Rs. 3,000 crore to provide remunerative prices for their farm produce during critical times.
Jagan also brought to the PM's notice that the input subsidy announced by the state government was yet to reach the farmers. He also urged Singh to accord a "national project" status to Polavaram and Pranahita-Chevella.
Earlier, Jagan also tried in vain to meet the Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj, who did not meet him. (INN)
