Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today lashed out at the union government for "discriminating against Telangana", and termed it the worst performing union government since Independence.
Addressing the Assembly budget session, the Chief Minister said that the Centre had announced 157 medical colleges and the same number of nursing colleges in its recent budget, but not a single college had been sanctioned to Telangana.
"It's not just our State that is getting hurt. Because of the lopsided policies being implemented by the union government, the country is being pushed into darkness. Over 20 lakh Indians gave up their citizenship during the tenure of the Modi government, indicating that the people are upset with the performance of the union government," KCR said.
Claiming that the performance of the UPA government headed by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was far better than the current Modi government, the Chief Minister said that while between 2004 and 2014 the country's annual growth rate was 6.8%, it was only 5.5% under the current Modi government.
"The country's debt-GDP ratio and fiscal deficit have also increased alarmingly, and exports and industrial growth have declined. There is no sector in the country performing better under the tenure of the BJP government. I am saying this on record with authorised statistics. If my statement is proved wrong, I will not hesitate to resign from the post of Chief Minister," KCR said.
Even though the country had celebrated 75 years of Independence, it was not progressing as expected, and many people were still deprived of basic needs like drinking water and power supply, KCR claimed. Both the Congress and the BJP needed to be held responsible for this situation, he said.
"There are abundant water resources in the country. If a strong leadership is at the helm, irrigation waters can be provided to every nook and corner of the country, and drinking water can be supplied to all the households in India. If the BRS comes to power, all problems will be sorted out immediately, and agriculture will be made a profitable profession," KCR claimed.
