IT & Industries Minister K T Rama Rao today warned the Centre of a big protest if it tried to privatise the Singareni mines.
Demanding that the Centre stop its plan to auction four mines in the Singareni Collieries, he warned that the miners, the TRS leadership and the state government would take up protests in Delhi if it did not.
In a letter to Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, KTR protested the Centre's plan to privatise the coal mines. He lashed out at the BJP government for trying to "cheat the people of the state by denying it projects, institutions and funds".
"Singareni is not a coal mine - it is a gold mine for Telangana. For the last seven years, the Singareni Collieries have earned good revenues, and we will not allow the Centre to privatise or sell any of the mines in the coal belt in the State," he said.
"The Centre is trying to suppress the coal mines from getting higher revenues, and has to desist from this conspiracy against the development of the Singareni Collieries and the welfare of the miners. The TRS leadership and the state government will storm the national capital and mount intense pressure on the Centre if it attempts any privatisation," he added.
