Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani on Friday stated that he would resign from his post if the government does not take a decision on setting up a port at Machilipatnam.
Talking to media persons, Perni Nani stated that he was committed to the establishment of a port in the district.
He blamed the government for delaying the file about the port's establishing.
In 2007, Nani, with help of YSR, had tried to start work on the port - a process that has gone on for over 4 years.
Nani said he would not reverse his decision on his resignation.
"I will continue my agitation for materializing the port at any cost. Posts and politics are not important for me. My top priority is the establishment of a port in Machilipatnam," he stated.
"I will quit politics if I fail to get a port for Machilipatnam by 2014," he stated.
Perni Nani said he would meet Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar on 21 August with a resignation letter, if the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy does not clear the file by August 20.
The port's file has been gathering dust at the Chief Minister's office for 7 months now, he said.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy called Nani over phone and requested him to not make a hasty decision on his resignation. (INN)
