Speaking on the Mallanna Sagar land acquisition row, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Vice-President Mallu Ravi said that the Telangana Congress leaders would approach the Supreme Court, appealing to it to direct the State government and the Hyderabad High Court to implement the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, for the Mallanna Sagar land acquisition.
Speaking to the media today, Ravi said that the farmers of Vemulaghat village would complete 100 days of their protests against the reservoir project on September 12, and the same day would also mark 50 days of the imposition of the prohibitory order under Section 144 in the village. The Telangana Congress leaders will reportedly head for Gajwel to participate in a meeting organized by Congress activists in the Donthula Prasad gardens to extend their solidarity to the Vemulaghat farmers.
Ravi alleged that the State government was misleading the people and the judiciary on the ground reality of the reservoir project and its land acquisition policy. He accused the government of conducting a survey on the areas surrounding Mallanna Sagar without the consent of the farmers.
The Congress leader said that his Party would also meet Governor E S L Narasimhan and submit a memorandum on the "forcible acquisition" of land by the TRS-led government.
