Tension is mounting among farmers opposing the Pharma City project after TJS leader M Kodandaram sought compensation for the affected landowners during a meeting with the Rangareddy district Collector.
"Why is Kodandaram now asking the Collector to provide compensation? Did the farmers ask for compensation? The farmers are clearly demanding that their land rights be restored. Kodandaram is well aware of this," the farmers said.
Farmers have rejected the compensation approach, reiterating their demand for the cancellation of land acquisition and the restoration of their land rights. They expressed disappointment saying that Kodandaram had earlier backed their cause and had opposed handing over fertile lands.
Accusing him of shifting his stance, farmers said that they expected him to fight alongside them against the State government, not support what they saw as a compromise solution.
"Kodandaram now appears to be supporting the government's stance. This is not the kind of action expected from a people's movement leader," they said.
