A war of words broke out between the ruling Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) on Friday over the implementation of the Rs 2 lakh farmer loan waiver and the government's six guarantees.
Challenges and counter-challenges were exchanged between the two parties' leaders after BRS MLA Harish Rao's visit to the Telangana Martyrs' Memorial at Gun Park in Hyderabad.
Former minister Harish Rao along with other BRS leaders came to Gun Park and released his resignation letter to the media as per his promise to resign if the CM Revanth Reddy did implement the farm loan waiver promise of the Congress by August 15. He gave his letter to journalists there asking them to submit it to the Speaker on August 15 if the promise was indeed implemented.
Rao dared the Chief Minister to do the same and prove that he was not trying to cheat the people for votes in the Lok Sabha elections once again.
Accepting Rao's challenge, Revanth Reddy however said that the former minister's resignation letter was not in the prescribed format, and alleged that Rao was enacting a drama in the name of resignation and was trying to betray the people once again.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders led by MLC Balmoor Venkat Narsinga Rao visited the Martyrs' Memorial and cleaned it with turmeric water, alleging that the memorial had become desecrated due to visit of Harish Rao.
The Congress MLC alleged that Harish Rao had caused the death of many youngsters, as he was the person who had provoked the unemployed youth during the Telangana statehood agitation.
