Veteran Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao today aired his displeasure about the Telangana government's proposal to auction all its vacant valuable lands once again. He said that the state would not have lands even for the establishment of graveyards in the future if the government went ahead with its plans.
"The government does not have any right to auction its lands. It is but a custodian of these lands. Future generations will surely have to face many problems if it goes ahead with its decision," the leader told the media.
He then asked the KCR regime whether its predecessors had also sold such large tracts of land in the past.
VHR also called upon the parties of the Opposition to unite on one platform to fight against the state government's controversial proposal.
Commenting on the appointment of the next TPCC chief, he reiterated his demand that the party high command appoint a leader from the weaker sections of society to the post.
Rao also raised an old issue - that of the "desecration" of a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar by the local police in 2019. He claimed that the police had shifted the statue to Goshamahal police station from Punjagutta.
He said that while he welcomed the decision of installing a statue of a Colonel, Santosh Babu, who was martyred in last year's Galwan clashes, he was still left wondering why the state government had a problem with reinstalling the Ambedkar statue as well.
The veteran leader revealed that he had already spoken to politicians like MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, state TDP president L Ramana and TPCC head N Uttam Kumar Reddy on the issue, and that he planned to hold a round table conference on it on June 17.
