Congress MLA and former minister D Sridhar Babu today said that he was not in the race for the post of TPCC head, and that he would abide by the decision made by the AICC on the issue.
Speaking to the media at the Assembly media point, Babu said that the state government was trying to sell away 30,000 acres of public lands, and demanded that it immediately withdraw its GO 13 sanctioning the sale of the lands.
He said that national Congress president Sonia Gandhi had granted statehood to Telangana in order to protect government lands and not so that they could be sold for short-term gains.
Claiming that the state was under a debt of Rs 4 lakh crore, the MLA also flayed Finance Minister T Harish Rao for the latter's justification of the land sale proposal by bringing up similar sales undertaken by the preceding regimes of undivided Andhra Pradesh.
"Our party had asked the then-chief minister of undivided AP not to sell the lands. In fact, we had distributed thousands of acres of land to the poor people of the state when we were in power. And, the TRS government should anyway realise that the responsibility of protecting government lands lies squarely on its own shoulders," he fumed.
Commenting on the welfare programs being implemented by the KCR government for the last seven years, Babu alleged that most programs were "anti-people" ones, and that this was proven by its attempts to sell state lands to non-natives of Telangana.
