Senior Congress leader and ex-MP V Hanumantha Rao was arrested on Sunday while trying to visit fasting and arrested Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham.
Police swooped down on the Regency Hotel where the Congress leader had checked in and stopped him from going out. When VHR resisted and tried to run out of the hotel, the police took him into custody and shifted him to the one-town police station.
VHR condemned the "repressive" measures of the TDP government on activists of the Kapu reservation movement and its leader.
Meanwhile, YSR Congress Party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu demanded that Mudragada be presented before the media as people had doubts over the government's claims about his health.
"Why is this government so afraid to allow the media to meet Mudragada?" Ambati asked, and added that Mudragada was being treated like a terrorist, and that Rajamundry had become a Pakistan.
People at various places staged dharnas demanding the release of Mudragada.
