Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu has condemned the recent lathicharge by the police in Nalgonda on Tuesday.
In a statement, Venkaiah Naidu alleged that the police had resorted to a "brutal" lathicharge on innocent people, particularly women.
"It was not a lathicharge, it was an indiscriminate attack by the police, on not only innocent people, but also BJP leaders," he asserted.
"Is this the way the police behave in a democracy? Does the government think that it can suppress protests by arrests and lathicharges?" he asked.
The BJP leader said that the police, by their brutal use of force, was adding to the tensions. He demanded that the government order an enquiry and take action against the police officers responsible for the act. He also demanded the immediate release of innocent people and BJP leaders. (INN)
