The possibility of an electoral alliance between the Congress and YSR Congress party triggered a new debate in political circles of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.
While interacting with media persons on the sidelines of Congress party's "Chintan Shibir" in Jaipur, Union Minister Vayalar Ravi did not rule out the possibility of an alliance with the YSR Congress party in next elections. However, he said that the State Unit of the Congress party would take the final decision on alliances depending upon the prevailing situation.
Although PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana or Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy are yet to react on Vayalar's statement, other senior leaders, especially from Rayalaseema and Andhra regions where YSRCP has been gaining ground, ridiculed such possibilities. "Alliances are forged between equals," said former minister JC Diwakar Reddy when asked for reaction during a press conference at Congress Legislature Party on Sunday. Stating that the YSRCP was not fit to be an ally of Congress party, he said alliances could be forged among equals.
Interestingly, the YSR Congress party officially maintained silence on the issue. However, when asked by reporters during a press conference at Karimnagar, YSRCP leader Gone Prakash Rao ruled out the possibility of an alliance with the Congress.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Telugu Desam Party used Vayalar's statement as a new weapon to target both the Congress and YSRCP. In a statement, party's politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu alleged that both the parties were already having a secret understanding. Citing YSRCP Honorary President Vijayamma's frequent visits to New Delhi, he said both the parties have been preparing ground to bury differences and join hands before the next elections. He said the merger of YSR Congress in Congress was a foregone conclusion. (INN)
