Union Textiles minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao on Sunday stated that he is ready to resign from his post if that can stop the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking to media persons after participating in a private programme in Tanuku of West Godavari district, Kavuru said that although he is ready to resign, it would not serve any purpose. He said he would take a final decision about his continuance in the Union cabinet on the day of voting on the State Reorganisation Bill in the Parliament. He said that his decision would depend on what the Centre decides on the Telangana issue.
Describing the proposed bifurcation of the state as "undemocratic", Kavuri said that the Centre did not consider the report and recommendations of Srikrishna Committee, which he said clearly stated that Telangana is more developed than the Seemandhra region. He said that the Centre was under the pressure of Telangana leaders, who demanded the division citing backwardness in the region.
Meanwhile, he denied having any information on Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy floating a new political party. (INN)
