Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has reportedly convinced Hein Schumacher, CEO of Unilever, to set up two manufacturing units in Telangana.
Unilever, a global FMCG giant that operates as Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) in India, has not had a significant presence in the State until now.
Along with IT & Industries Minister Sridhar Babu and officials from the Telangana Rising delegation, the Chief Minister held a meeting with Schumacher and Willem Uijen (Chief Supply Chain Officer of the company), to discuss business opportunities in Telangana.
Reddy spoke of the State's locational advantages, and said that the landlocked region could serve as a gateway and bridge to several southern States, as well as other regions in eastern, western and central India.
He also discussed the advantages for the supply chain and logistics of manufacturing in Telangana, as also other advantages offered by the State including a large consumption-driven market, ease of doing business and progressive policies.
During the meeting, Reddy requested the Unilever team to consider high-growth sectors in India and establish operations in these sectors.
In response, the Unilever CEO announced plans to set up a palm oil unit in Telangana. The Chief Minister offered full support for that, and even suggested a location in Kamareddy district.
The Unilever team also agreed to establish a new manufacturing unit for producing bottle caps.
Welcoming Unilever to Telangana, Reddy said, "We are here to fully support Unilever's major entry and growth in our State. We must grow together, but without losing sight of our larger sustainability and fairness goals for people and the planet."
