Sleuths of the South Zone Task Force on Tuesday took into custody 2 persons on charges of attempting to cheat drug addicts of Rs. 10 lakhs by passing off some white powder as brown sugar, a sought-after narcotic substance.
The 2 men have been identified as Rayees Khan alias Aankhen, and Pathan Ikthiyar Khan. According to the police, Rayeez Khan and Ikthiyar Khan hail from Pratapgarh (UP) and Kutch (Gujarat), respectively.
The police also recovered 400 grams of white powder and 2 daggers from their possession.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were working as drivers with Neeta Travels, Borivali (Mumbai). They further revealed that their friend Ashraf, a car driver from Gujarat, had come to Mumbai and had given them a packet of white powder.
Ashraf had suggested that they could sell the powder as brown-sugar for Rs. 10 lakhs, and take a cut on the deal.
The police apprehended them on Monday evening near the Salar Jung Museum while they were trying to strike a deal.
The arrested and their seized property were handed over to the SHO Mirchowk Police Station for further investigation. (INN)
