The Telangana Mazdoor Union (TMU) announced that the state's RTC workers would begin a strike in support of their demands from any day after May 21.
Telangana RTC workers took up a "Chalo Bus Bhavan" today. Workers reached the Bus Bhavan in large numbers from across the state under the leadership of the TMU demanding that the state government solve their problems. The TMU is demanding that the state government take up a pay revision, fill up vacant openings in the corporation and solving other problems.
The police deployed huge security to ensure a peaceful protest.
Speaking on the occasion, TMU general secretary Ashwathama Reddy said that Chalo Bus Bhavan program was just the beginning. The workers were quite angry with the state government, he claimed. He warned the government not to wait till the workers laid siege to Pragathi Bhavan, and demanded that it solve the problems soon. The fruits of creation of statehood for Telangana had not reached the RTC workers yet, and the workers were restless now, he said.
He asked CM K Chandrashekar Rao, who was himself an activist, why he was not permitting meetings of other activists. He also sought to know why there was no job security for employees in the TSRTC, and urged other unions to join hands to wage a movement for solutions to their common problems.
