Telangana Chief Minister and TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao today announced that his party would extend its unconditional support to the December 8 Bharat Bandh declared by the farmers of the state and the country, and that the party's rank and file would participate actively in the proposed bandh.
Explaining the party's stand, Rao said that the TRS would stand by the farmers since they were rightfully protesting against the three "anti-farmer" Acts which, if not withdrawn, would have adverse effects on the agrarian community.
"The TRS has been opposed to the union government's decision to bring in the Acts since they were first introduced in Parliament. Now that they have been passed, there is a need to continue the farmers' agitation against them till they are withdrawn," he added.
The CM said that the TRS would do its best to make the bandh a success.
He also appealed to the people of the state to stand by the farming community, and throw their weight behind the bandh so that the Acts would be repealed.
Many farmers have been protesting against the three laws that were introduced by the union government in September this year, for nearly two months now. Many prominent film actors and political leaders have also lent their support to the farmers' cause. However, the situation recently escalated after farmers from Punjab and Haryana intensified their protests, and blockaded key highways leading into the country's capital. They have also announced a nationwide protest on December 8.
