Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Animal Husbandry Minster Talasani Srinivas Yadav today visited Dharna Chowk, the dharna site for the TRS' Maha Dharna on Thursday (November 18) to demand that the Centre clear the paddy stocks from the state, with other TRS leaders and inspected the arrangements being made for the protest.
Speaking to the media, Rao said that the TRS leaders and activists would sit on a dharna from 11 am to 2 pm, and then give a representation to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on the demand. They urged people from all walks of life to attend the dharna and strengthen the demand.
TRS boss and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, other ministers, MPs, MLAs and other TRS leaders will reportedly attend the dharna.
"We intend to mount pressure on the Centre to give clarity about lifting our rice stocks. The BJP government at the Centre is deliberately ignoring our pleas on paddy procurement, and trying to escape from its responsibility to clear our rice and paddy stocks. This is uncalled for and unbecoming," Rao said.
The minister also accused the Centre of adopting dual standards on rice procurement from the state, given it was procuring Punjab's produce.
Municipal Administration and IT minister K T Rama Rao too slammed the Centre for its "adamant and partisan" attitude towards Telangana on rice and farm produce. He told media persons that the Centre was trying to ignore its constitutional obligation, deliberately failing to clear food grains from the state even though it was buying produce from Punjab.
He appealed to the farmers and people to not believe in the "false charges and misinformation campaign" by BJP president Sanjay or other leaders of that party, but to believe in the KCR government's policies and decisions on any issue.
The minister appealed to the farmers from the districts to attend the Maha Dharna to make it a big success. He reiterated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would himself be attending the dharna.
