Telangana Minister for Mines & Geology K T Rama Rao today said that the Telangana government would purge the illegal mining activities going on in the State.
Rao was inspecting a sand quarry at Kothapalli village in the Karimnagar district, and interacted with the miners, labourers and drivers. He inquired about the quality of the facilities that were being provided to them to carry out the mining and transport activities. He also examined their work environment to check if it met all basic safety standards, and directed that mining activities be stopped during the dusk to avoid hazards.
The minister later rang up the district officials, including the SP and the RDO, and directed them to come down heavily on the illegal mining mafia. Rao asked them to track all illegal activities, make sure that they stopped, and arrest the guilty.
"Sand is the key to the nation's infrastructure. There is no room for illegal sand mining," he said.
