TRS Insensitive Towards Farmers: Digvijay Singh
The AICC General Secretary said if the TRS government fulfilled its promise of waiving off crop loans, hundreds of farmers would not have committed suicides.
AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and the TRS government in Telangana remained insensitive to the issues concerning farmers.
Speaking to media persons during AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi's "Kisan Sandesh Yatra" in Nirmal, Singh said that the previous Congress government was sympathetic to the farmers, which was something missing in the BJP and TRS governments.
He alleged that the farmers were being forced to sell their produce below the Minimum Support Price. Fertilizers were being black-marketed and farmers were finding it difficult to continue with their professions due to a lack of the basic minimum facilities.
Singh claimed that the previous UPA regime had waived off crop loans of over Rs 72,000 crores. Farmers were provided free electricity, fertilizers and the best MSP.
He said that the TRS government did not fulfill its promise of waiving off crop loans, and that hundreds of farmers would not have committed suicides if the state government had fulfilled its promises.
He claimed that the entire agriculture sector was facing one of its worst crises. (INN)
