TRS Cheating With Inflated GSDP Numbers: Congress

The Telangana Congress alleged again that the TRS government was giving out inflated GSDP and budget figures.
Hyderabad | 14th March 2017
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged again that the Telangana government was giving out wrong GSDP figures.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Tuesday, he said that it was painful that Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao didn't know who calculated the GDP, and explained that the Centre did it by considering the figures submitted by the various state governments.

Reddy then alleged that the Telangana government was sending wrong figures to the Centre, and said that he had gotten the figures he had quoted from the CIG website. He asked the state government if the social economic survey figures could be wrong.

The government was trying to deceive the people by the manipulation of figures, he said. For example, he said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would certainly know for a fact that agriculture production had actually reduced after the latter came to power, though he claimed a high growth.

He also alleged that the state government was lying in regard to ease of doing business, and asked whether it was not a fact that the state was in sixth place in regard to investments. He also asked the Chief Minister whether any power project had started production after he came to power.

In addition to its misinformation on the GSDP figures, the state government also was inflating the figures in the budget every year to mislead the people, and most of those expenditures were not being met anyway, he said.

He claimed that the Chief Minister was now kicking off a fresh way to cheat the people in the name of sops for the BCs, to extricate himself from the previous assurances to other disadvantaged sections - three-acre land for dalits and 12% reservations to Muslims and STs - since he had realized that it was not possible to implement those election promises.

He said that most promises made by KCR were in fact never kept. He asked KCR to explain for example where the assurance of giving lands to journalists had gone. The government was also least bothered about the health cards which were not working properly. He also asked KCR why he was not fulfilling the assurances given to lawyers.

The Chief Minister made the state number one only in liquor sales and in party defections, he sniggered.

He asserted that the opposition parties had the right to question the government on its borrowing since that mortgaged the interests of the state.

He also stated that IT Minister K T Rama Rao was a child in comparison, and had no stature to criticize AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi's family had a history of sacrifices, he said, while KTR's had a history of looting the state. He alleged that KTR was getting awards by paying for them, and they didn't mean his words had any credibility.

Reddy predicted that TRS' "misrule" would result in early elections in the state in 2018, and claimed that the Congress was ready to face them.
