Nizamabad MP Kavitha exhorted the print and electronic media to maintain quality journalism instead of relying on sensationalism. Newspapers ought to write facts in an impartial manner and take responsibility to help the Telangana government promote its programs for social welfare and inclusive growth.
She launched Manam Daily at Prasads Labs along with Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Excise Minister Padma Rao Goud and others. Speaking on the occasion, Kavitha, while appreciating the management of the newspaper, asked them to maintain decency and decorum on duty with standards and quality news, and focus on key issues.
She said that the media should try to focus on peoples' issues and enable the deprived classes benefit from welfare schemes of the government. For this, the media houses needed to shift their focus on giving wide coverage to welfare and development programs.
Mohammad Mahmood Ali said that the media should also cover news pertaining to the poor and destitute. Flagship programs including Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak were the brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and meant to help dalits and Muslim minorities to perform marriages of their female children, he said.
"We are focusing more on the welfare sector and offering pensions to the aged, widowers and physically challenged," Mahmood Ali claimed.
He urged the media to give widespread coverage to development activities.
