Thousands Avail Of Fish Medicine For Asthma

Thousands of persons from all walks of life - men and women, young and old - and from different parts of the country including the Telugu states on Thursday availed themselves of the now popular "fish medicine" to get cured of asthma and other breathing disorders.

The administration of the medicine by the Bathina family members has now become an annual feature in the state capital, and is famous globally. Since two days those wanting to avail themselves of the medicine have been arriving in the state capital, and have been camping at the venue. Apart from those coming from various states of the country, there are also several foreigners. Among the thousands who are thronging the venue, many have been coming every year claiming that they were having much relief after taking the medicine.

Special arrangements have been made for the 2-day event at Exhibition Grounds by the state government, and are being supervised by minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav. 1,000 police personnel have been deployed at the venue to avoid any untoward incidents and to ensure orderly conduct in the enclosures. The whole venue has been fitted with CCTV cameras to help officials keep track of the proceedings. Special bus services have been made to enable people to reach the venue from different parts of the state. Special services were also operated to help those arriving by trains to reach the venue without any hassles.

As many 65 counters have been opened where tokens are being given to the patients to avail themselves of the medicine. Since the medicine is given mainly using fish fingerlings, the fisheries department made arrangements for distributing 2 lakh fingerlings. In addition, some private fish stalls have also come up in the area for supplying fish.

Those who are averse to taking the medicine using fish fingerlings are being administered the medicine using jaggery.

The medicine will be administered on Friday, too.
