Saturday night saw tension in Moosabowli in the Old City, when some activists started removing flags for the upcoming Hanuman Jayanthi festival. What started as a verbal duel between Hindus and Muslims spiraled into a stone-pelting spree, even though political leaders stepped in to control the situation.
36 people have been injured so far in the violence, the city Police Commissioner A K Khan said today. 70 arrests have been made and 15 cases have been booked. He also said that police forces are being brought in so the 10th standard exams can go on peacefully. In the wake of a possible bandh call for Monday, the DGP Girish Kumar has assured that security has been tightened in problematic areas.
