In a significant development, the Telangana government today issued orders to release Rs. 2,043 crores towards crop loan waiver, according to information.
With this, the KCR government will have waived off 50% of the loans of the farmers so far.
It may be noted here that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had reiterated that he would keep his election promise of waiving off all loans meeting certain criteria, and he therefore has kept his promise to an extent.
This step by the government is a major reprieve for the farming community which was awaiting timely succour.
Some three weeks ago, the state government had released a similar amount for the same purpose.
It is likely that the government will clear the remaining 50% of the loans in another two years.
