Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today proudly announced that Telangana was the first State in the country to allot a whopping Rs 28,000 crores for the welfare sector alone.
"I am very happy to extend my greetings to you on the occasion of the first anniversary of our achieving a separate state after a protracted struggle involving sacrifices. Our aim now is to achieve a golden Telangana through welfare and development," he declared.
The Chief Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the Telangana State first anniversary celebrations.
KCR declared that his aim was to make Telangana a welfare state through use of its ample workforce and resources to ensure that fruits of labor and development reached everyone.
Ridiculing the previous government of failing to implement welfare schemes, the Chief Minister alleged that "fat" leaders used to distribute only "fat" rice to the people through ration shops.
"However, we being 'slim' began distributing 'fine rice' to the poor and deprived classes in the state unmindful of the expenditure," he stated.
KCR also claimed that his government's determination to benefit the weaker sections was reflected through the active implementation of welfare schemes - Aasara pensions, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak etc.
"The Telangana State is an ideal for the entire nation in implementing welfare schemes. We have also initiated prestigious flagship programs including Mission Kakatiya to restore 46,000 lakes and water bodies, and Harithaharam to plant 300 crore saplings for afforestation and greenery. We have successfully resolved the power crisis in just six months, and efforts are on to achieve self-sufficiency in the power sector," he added.
The anniversary celebrations of Telangana statehood were held in opulence and in a festive mood at Parade Grounds, which was enveloped in an atmosphere of celebration. Elegantly decorated tableaux of all departments and a number of cultural troupes made for an impressive display. (NSS)
