An encounter took place between the police and suspected Maoists in the Aheri forest area near Venkatapur on the Telangana-Maharashtra border in the early hours of this morning.
According to information, three suspected Maoists were killed in the encounter with the Telangana Greyhounds and the Maharashtra C-60 commandos.
The incident took place when a group of Maoists opened fire on the police patrol party in the forest area in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. When the police forces returned the fire, three Maoists were reportedly killed.
The deceased Maoists were identified as Adilabad division commander Sobhan, Dinesh and Mukesh. The bodies were recovered and are being brought to the district headquarters.
Police said that one AK 47, an SLR and revolutionary literature were recovered from the scene of the encounter.
20 cases were pending against Sobhan, who carries a reward of Rs. 5 lakhs.
