An "encounter" between the police and the banned Maoists took place in the Puttapadu forest on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in the early hours of Sunday.
An "encounter" between the police and the banned Maoists took place in the Puttapadu forest on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in the early hours of Sunday.
Two Maoists were killed during the exchange of fire in the "encounter". They have been identified as Charla LGS Commander Errraiah alias Rajesh and Chaitanya Natya Mandali commander Nanda.
Acting on credible information, forces belonging to the Greyhounds force of Telangana along with CRPF personnel conducted a combing operation in the forest area. They spotted the Maoists at a place leading to the exchange of fire.
The combing operation is still going on in the forest area.
Meanwhile, the CPI (Maoists) termed the "encounter" fake.
In a statement released by the party, the Secretary of the Bhadradri - Kothagudem - Alluri Seetharamaraju division committee (BK-ASR) Azad said that one of the victims Rajesh had gone to Puttapadu village alone without any arms and that he was caught by the police following a tip-off by a traitor. He alleged that the police had used third degree interrogation methods on Rajesh and killed him later in the "encounter".
He urged the people of the two States and advocates of democracy to condemn the "fake encounter", and said that the ruling BRS party leaders, SP Vineet, DSP Satyanarayana and CI Ashok would be held responsible for the "encounter".
