The Telangana State Teachers' Union (TSTU) today demanded that the state government regularize the services of guest teachers who, the union said, were being meted out gross injustice.
Speaking at a meeting of the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Backward Classes Residential Schools Guest Teachers Association, TSTU president B Bhujanga Rao said that the state was exploiting the guest teachers by making them work for the entire day as the regular teachers did, despite the guest faculty having been appointed to teach for just a few hours each day.
He said that some 850 guest teachers had been teaching in 119 schools across the 31 districts of Telangana for the past 15 years, and that despite making them work full-time, the government was paying them a paltry sum of just Rs 14,000 per month. He demanded that the state recognize the services of such teachers, regularize their positions, and grant them equal pay for equal work.
CPI state executive member Mallepally Adhi Reddy, Guest Teachers Association president Govardhan, STU state general secretary S Sadanand Goud and secretary Karunakar Reddy, and Guest Teachers Association leaders including Sayyed Gouse, Dayakar Rao, Harshavardhan, Saidamma and Mallikarjun Rao were present at the meeting along with others.
