The Telangana TDP has urged the Speaker to take immediate action against its MLAs who had defected to the TRS.
The Telangana Telugu Desam Party has urged the Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary to initiate immediate action against its MLAs who had defected to the TRS, under the provisions of the Anti-Defection Law.
A delegation of the TDP leaders led by Telangana TDP president L Ramana called upon the Speaker at his residence on Wednesday, after first meeting Governor E S L Narasimhan at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
TDP leaders complained that five MLAs including minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav (elected from the Sanathnagar constituency), who were elected to the Assembly on TDP tickets, had defected to the TRS in 2014. The other MLAs were Theegala Krishna Reddy (Maheshwaram), Challa Dharma Reddy (Parakala), Manchireddy Kishan Reddy (Ibrahimpatnam) and Madhavaram Krishna Rao (Kukatpally).
Apart from the five TDP MLAs, four Congress and two YSR Congress MLAs had also defected to the TRS, but the constitutional authorities were not exercising their power, and were ignoring their duties, they said.
In the memorandum submitted to the Speaker, the TDP leaders said that the Speaker, in spite of repeated representations, had not acted upon the defecting MLAs.
"You have not acted upon the petitions the TDP had submitted for obvious reasons resulting in a mockery of the Constitution," they alleged in the memorandum.
Talasani Srinivas Yadav was even inducted into the Telangana Cabinet on December 16, 2014, which was a violation of the Constitution, they added.
In addition, the minister, they alleged, had pretended that he had sent his resignation from the Sanathnagar Assembly constituency from where he was elected, to the Speaker, but the Speaker's office had clarified that there was no resignation pending with it.
Telangana TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao told reporters later that the Speaker had assured he would initiate action into the issue soon.
Other Telangana TDP senior leaders including Ravula Chandrashekar Reddy, and MLAs Maganti Gopinath, Arikepudi Gandhi, G Sayanna Kuna Venkatesh Goud, Amaranath Babu and M N Srinivas, participated in the delegation.
High drama preceded the meeting as the security personnel had stopped the delegation from entering the Speaker's residence stating that they would allow only MLAs to meet the Speaker, which led to heated arguments.
