Pro-Telangana leaders on Thursday claimed that statehood for the region would be a reality in the next few days.
Addressing a silent protest held at Gun Park, former PCC president K Keshava Rao said that now nothing could stop the formation of a Telangana state. He said that he hopes that a separate state is a reality by the end of this month.
"People of the region have tolerated injustice for the last 60 years, and they will be able breathe in freedom after a few days," he said.
Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman M Kodandaram alleged that Seemandhra leaders were deliberately hurting Telangana sentiments, and that they must refrain from doing so.
He warned Seemandhra leaders of "dire consequences" in case they try to "sabotage" the formation of a Telangana state. He also accused the Congress of frequently changing its stance on the statehood issue.
He demanded that the Congress honour the promise it made on December 9, 2009, of forming a Telangana state.
CPI state secretary K Narayana said that further delay in the formation of Telangana would only complicate the issue and poison the atmosphere in all regions. BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreyya said that the people of the region were suffering due to the delay in the formation of Telangana.
He promised that the BJP would form a separate state within 90 days if it returns to power at the Centre in the 2014 elections.
Congress MP Rajagopal Reddy, former MPs Chukka Ramaiah (BJP) and B Vinod Kumar (TRS), Ch Vidyasagar Rao (BJP), Telangana Employees JAC leader Srinivas Goud, MPJ leader Hamed Mohammad and other leaders addressed the gathering. (INN)
