Former minister P Shankar Rao on Wednesday claimed that the Telangana state would be the Centre's "Republic Day gift" to the people of this region.
Shankar Rao, who visited the Legislative Assembly after a gap of about three months, told reporters that the roadmap for the formation of a Telangana state would be discussed during the AICC's session at Jaipur, and that a formal announcement would be made on the eve of Republic Day.
Shankar Rao said that hundreds of youth have sacrificed their lives for the formation of a separate state since the 1960s, and that the decision would be the ideal homage paid to them.
He said that two generations have struggled to achieve statehood for the region, and that now the third generation would witness its formation.
The former minister also took light of the
proposed meeting of Seemandhra leaders on Thursday. He said that party leaders from all regions would have to abide by the decision taken by the Congress High Command, and that therefore, the outcome of the proposed meeting, would be irrelevant. (INN)
