Though summer is yet to fully set in, many places in Telangana, including the state capital, are already sizzling.
Mercury levels have been shooting up in the state capital every day, and even touched 36 degree Celsius yesterday. Citizens of Hyderabad are often left sweating by as early as 8 in the morning as temperatures have been crossing 30 degrees for the last four or five days. Today, however, the highest temperature, 39.8 degree Celsius, was recorded in Peddapalli district's Manthani.
The Telangana State Development Planning Society stated that the maximum temperature is expected to be anywhere between 35 to 38 degrees during the next couple of days.
The soaring temperatures have meant that the consumption of power in the state has also been seeing new highs. On February 26, a record 260.98 million units of electricity were used up. Hyderabad alone used up 49 million units of power.
Apart from home appliances, agriculture too is likely to push up electricity consumption in the coming months. With a whopping 68 lakh acres of land reportedly being tilled this Rabi season, the sector's energy demand will perhaps cross all previous records, electricity officials predicted.
They also said that electricity usage in Hyderabad will cross 60 million units by the end of March itself.
