The State registered the highest-ever power demand since its formation, today.
According to officials, a peak demand of 14,794 MW was recorded for the first time at 12 PM today.
The previous highest peak demand was 12,966 MW recorded last year.
Officials are expecting the peak power demand to touch 16,000 MW this summer.
They said that as the area of crop cultivation in Telangana had increased significantly, the power consumption by the agriculture sector had gone up from 35% to 37% this season, and that this was compounded by the growing demand by industrial units.
Meanwhile, TS Genco and TS Transco MD D Prabhakar Rao said that the corporations were prepared to meet the power demand even if it touched 16,000 MW in the summer, and that the distribution companies were ready to provide 24-hour power supply to all the segments.
