Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLAs staged a "sit-in" at the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly premises, on Saturday, to protest "the anti-Telangana stance of the state government" by denying them permission to take out a rally but allowing Seemandhra employees to hold the Save AP meeting.
TRS leaders Harish Rao, E Rajender, P Srinivasa Reddy and others reached the Assembly on two-wheelers and attempted to "sit-in" at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. However, they were prevented from doing so by the police and the security staff.
The leaders sat in protest in front of the building, which is half-a-km from the Lal Bahadur Stadium, where the Seemandhra employees are holding a meeting to oppose the proposed bifurcation of the state.
Harish Rao alleged that though the police said that only employees would be allowed into the stadium, many anti-social elements had joined the gathering. He said the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had mobilised large crowds. "If anything happens, the government will be responsible," he said.
With the TRS launching a flash protest, police further beefed up security around the Assembly and the stadium, to prevent any untoward incident. (INN)
