Relatively sporadic but vociferous protests continued to dot the Telangana landscape on Sunday.
The indefinite fasts undertaken by Osmania University students have entered their 4th day today, and the condition of a couple of students is stated to be worrisome. A student Kaviraju was taken to a hospital by the police yesterday. Some students of Kakatiya University at Warangal are on indefinite fasts, too, which also entered the 4th day.
A rally of students is happening in Medchal on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The TRS has organized a rasta roko in Siddipet and a bike rally in Manchiryala, women in Nalgonda district's Motkur have adorned the roads in front of their houses with pro-Telangana messages in rangoli, and there is a general buzz across the region. KCR, the TRS leader, has asked his cadres for peace till Monday, the deadline he gave the Union government to announce a clear timeframe for Telangana, resulting in a relative lull. That could not stop some people, however, from destroying a statue of YSR at Madhapur's Parvatnagar.
In other related news, Chukka Ramaiah, of IIT coaching fame, visited the Osmania University today to sympatize with the students protesting for a separate Telangana, and asked the government not to register cases against the students and also requestd the VC to keep hostels open (OU hostels have a reputation for housing several non-students, and have been closed during the last few weeks to contain the conflagration). And Telangana ministers are setting out for New Delhi to pressurize the government to spell out a timeframe for separate state creation.
