Former minister and Gadwal Congress MLA D K Aruna challenged Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to an open debate on the re-organization of Telangana's districts.
Aruna and former Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ponnala Laxmaiah sat on a two-day hunger strike at Indira Park on Saturday demanding that the State government carve out new districts for Gadwal and Jangaon, too.
Speaking on the occasion, Aruna claimed that there was no response to the objections raised and the suggestions made by the Congress in the all-Party meeting held on the issue.
"We took up a two-day hunger strike after our objections went unheard," she said.
Aruna alleged that the re-organization process was being done unreasonably. The government was trying to create new districts only to improve the TRS' representation position, and wasn't bothered about geography, resources and population, she alleged, and asked the CM to prove otherwise.
Pointing out that she had been fighting for a separate district for Gadwal for two months, Aruna pleaded with the government to respond to her demand.
KCR should consider the public opinion even if it opposed his own, she said, and claimed that the CM was behaving like an autocrat.
