Telangana Tourism and Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud today spoke about the ongoing water conflict between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He asserted that the state would not lose its water and resources to the neighbouring state.
During his tour of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, he told the media that the state would fight to protect its rights.
Expressing disappointment at the AP government and Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for trying to "loot" Telangana's share of water from the Krishna basin, the minister claimed, "The Rayalaseema lift irrigation project and the Pothireddipadu expansion works are aimed solely at looting our waters. Jaganmohan Reddy had no right to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of AP's irrigation projects and power production problems. Though AP is itself violating several guidelines of the National Green Tribunal and the directions of the Krishna River Management Board, the CM wrote a letter to the PM and other union ministers. This will not affect us. We will continue to fight for our rights. We are ready to even lose our lives to secure our share of water and resources."
"The people of Telangana fought for decades to attain statehood to solve the longstanding water and resources paucity problems and for more jobs. We are a developing state and are not ready to lose any water," Goud asserted.
He then stressed the need for protecting the rights of the young state and urged all the political parties and the public to unite to do so.
