Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) Chairperson and YSR Congress Party MLA R K Roja today urged the government of neighbouring Telangana not to commit any kind of injustice against the people of AP in the sharing of the waters of the Krishna.
Saying that she was making an appeal with folded hands, the APIIC head told the media that she was even performing prayers at Tirumala for the protection of the rights of the people of her state.
Roja claimed that the conduct of the Telangana government in using the water of the Krishna in an "illegal manner" was highly objectionable, and added that the AP administration had had to write a letter to the BJP-led Centre, urging it to solve the water dispute between the two Telugu states.
The MLA then stated that the leaders and people of AP would not keep silent if they were treated unfairly by the neighbouring state. She also said that those criticising Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for his stand on the issue were wrong to do so.
"Our CM has always had the best interests of the people of AP in his heart. He is credited with bringing in a special law for the protection of women. While former CM N Chandrababu Naidu had never thought of any such policy measures, Jagan has always been committed to ensuring the welfare of all sections of society. It is consumable that the leaders of the TDP have been levelling baseless allegations against our government by holding fake protest programs," the leader fumed.
Fresh trouble over the controversial issue of the distribution of the waters of the Krishna basin have broken out again, and leaders from both sides have been exchanging bitter allegations.
Just yesterday, Telangana Excise Minister V Srinivas Goud today
slammed the ministers of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh for their comments on the issue.
Speaking to the media in Mahabubnagar, the minister thundered that if the AP government had "any respect for the Telugu people", it needed to stop the construction of all its "illegal" irrigation projects.
