Several statues of former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi were vandalised by the Samaikhyandhra activists at several places in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in protest against the UPA's decision to create a separate Telangana state.
Several activists, who went on rampage, targeted the statues of the Congress Prime Ministers. While there were minor incidents of violent protests elsewhere in the Seemandhra region, the activists created havoc in the Anantapur district.
Several statues were completely damaged, and that too, in the presence of police personnel. They also tried, more than once, to set fire to the Congress party's office. However, the police foiled their attempts and even resorted to lathi charge several times. (INN)
