The Hyderabad High Court today took up hearing on a petition filed against the conducting of municipal elections in Telangana.
The court asked the State government to submit the full details of the ordinance issued by it in this regard recently.
The court also asked the State government how it could conduct municipal elections as per the old Act when the new Act was already in force, and how it could hold the elections in eight days after informing the court that it would conduct the elections in 109 days.
Additional Advocate General Ramachander Rao submitted to the court that the government had divided the wards and divisions of the municipalities and municipal corporations as per GO No 78. He also assured the HC that the government would hold the elections as per the old Act.
The court then adjourned the case to Friday.
