Telangana Mulls SC Ban On Highway Liquor Shops
Home Minister Narsimha Reddy said that State would strictly comply with the Supreme Court's order to shut down all liquor shops abutting the highways.

In order to avert all possible fatal road accidents along the National and State highways, the Telangana government would strictly comply with the Supreme Court's recent order to shut down all liquor shops abutting the highways, State Home Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy said.
Replying to a question raised by Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and others in the State Assembly on Wednesday, the Home Minister said that the government was also contemplating to set up 50 highway traffic police Stations in every 50 km distance on National and State Highways to prevent tragic road accidents that were increasing of late in Telangana, and especially along the Outer Ring Road.
He said that the State government would implement the court order in order to curb accidental deaths occurring due to driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
Reddy also said that in order to curb road accidents, all unit officers had been instructed to launch special drives and take up preventive steps to avert road accidents and casualties in their respective jurisdictions, and book cases under the Motor Vehicle Act against offenders.
