Ministers on Monday lambasted Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan for rejecting the State government's recommedations for the MLC posts under the Governor's quota.
Minister for Finance and Health T Harish Rao alleged that the Governor was acting like a representative of the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP), and was working against the progress of Telangana State.
"Tamilisai Soundararajan is making a mockery of democracy. How can the Governor reject the MLC nominations approved by the State Cabinet? She should give an explanation of how BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha," Rao asked.
Minister for Roads and Buildings Vemula Prashanth Reddy said that Soundararajan didn't have any right to continue in the post of Governor as she had violated the Constitution.
"She has insulted the activists of the Telangana movement by citing that they have a political background. Tamilisai herself was appointed directly as the Governor of Telangana when she was the president of the Tamil Nadu BJP unit. Is that not a political appointment? If Tamilisai has moral values, she should resign from the Governor's post immediately," Reddy said.
Minister for Endowments Indrakaran Reddy alleged that the Governor was working against the federal spirit of the Constitution and was deliberately creating hurdles for the State government.
"No Governor has behaved like this in the past. And it is an insult to the BC and ST communities to reject the names of candidates of those communities for MLC posts," Indrakaran Reddy said.
