Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has decided not to take any decision on the proposals from the previous BRS government for nominated quota MLCs.
She took the decision in the wake of the case going on in the High Court of the State.
The Raj Bhavan authorities released an official statement on the issue.
"The Raj Bhavan hereby informs that in light of the pending Writ Petitions (WP No 180 of 2024 and WP No 181 of 2024) filed by Dasoju Sravan Kumar and K Satyanarayana challenging the rejection of their MLC nominations, and the Hon'ble High Court of Telangana's observation that in accordance with the gentlemen's agreement no further steps will be taken in filling the vacant MLCs under Governor Quota, the Hon'ble Governor has decided not to take any action on the proposal of the State Government to fill the vacant two MLC seats under the Governor Quota till the above Writ Petitions are finally decided by the Hon'ble High Court (sic)," the statement said.
Earlier, when the BRS government was in power in Telangana, the then cabinet had nominated Dasoju Sravan Kumar and Satyanarayana for the MLC seats under the Governor's quota, and sent them to the Governor for her approval. However, the Governor did not approve the names. After that, the Telangana Assembly elections were held, and the Congress came to power.
Shravan and Satyanarayana approached the High Court as their names were not accepted. Their petitions were recently heard by the court. During the hearing, the lawyers appearing for Shravan and Satyanarayana argued that the Governor could not block the cabinet decision. The Governor's counsel told the court that the petition was not maintainable under Article 361 of the Indian Constitution.
After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court said it would continue to hear on the maintainability of the petition, and posted the matter for further hearing to the 24th of this month.
