December 6 marked Dr B R Ambedkar's 64th death anniversary, and on the occasion many leaders in Telangana paid rich tributes to the leader who is also known as the Father of the Indian Constitution.
Telangana Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar today remembered the many contributions of Ambedkar to the development of the SC and ST communities.
Attributing the development of India to the leader, he said that the present model of welfare and the development that the country had experienced were the result of the Constitution penned by Ambedkar.
He added that the most meaningful way to honour Ambedkar's legacy was to adhere to the latter's teachings, and claimed that the Telangana government was doing exactly that by following his ideals to develop the state.
"The TRS government has started 125 Gurukul schools and hundreds of other institutions for the depressed classes in the state, to honour the ideals of Ambedkar. Our government also offers Rs 20 lakhs to these communities to pursue foreign education," he said.
BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar too paid floral tributes to Ambedkar at the latter's statue in Tank Bund.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said that Ambedkar was a great man who had guided the country to progress, and had filled the lives of the weaker sections of society with light.
The BJP chief then targeted the Chief Minister, and said that the latter had not even bothered to honour Ambedkar on the occasion.
He advised KCR to remember Ambedkar's teachings, claiming this could help the CM "find wisdom".
December 6, the death anniversary of Dr B R Amberkar, is observed as Mahaparinirvan Divas, to remember the leader who worked for the uplift of India's oppressed castes.
