City Police commissioner A K Khan ordered the deployment of additional forces at the state High Court on Wednesday, to ward off any untoward incident, even as lawyers from Telangana continued their boycott of work for the 3rd day.
Police personnel are allowing lawyers and respondents into the Court premises after thorough verification of documents and identity cards.
These measures have been taken due to the ongoing protest by the Telangana lawyers, who are demanding 42% reservation in recruitment to various posts in the judiciary for people from the Telangana region.
The lawyers are continuing their protests by sitting on the road in front of the High Court premises.
Traffic has been disrupted, leading to grumbling from commuters over the inconvenience.
i was at the city civil court (afzal gunj) today, and some of the lawyers were behaving more like goons and bullies. they would not let anyone in.
it's one thing to boycott the court yourself, and another to stop others from getting in. people come from long distances, even other districts. apart from a long-awaited hearing getting adjourned, is the additional problem that these lawyer-goons would not even allow them inside to find out what dates hearings had been postponed to.
when some normal litigants who had their work postponed yesterday too, and who were getting belligerent, threatened to push their way in, some of those lawyers threatened to beat them up.
my gutfeel is, these lawyers are using this as an opportunity to showcase their own machismo or establish themselves as leaders, rather than as an opportunity to help the Telangana cause.
it's easy to lose any sympathy for Telangana when you yourself are affected...
